RIP Peter Highley

We are sad to share the news that Peter Highley, former chairman of SAMRA’s Durban branch for many years, passed away today.

Peter was part of the SAMRA family for more than 20 years, and met his wife, Jenny Highley at a SAMRA Annual Conference. He was passionate about the Durban research community and promoted SAMRA’s objectives tirelessly throughout his career. Peter was one of the first researchers to be awarded SAMRA Accredited Researcher status, in 2011.

Most recently, Peter was co-owner of E-Nose Africa. Before that, he started Research by Design, a strategic marketing consultancy, in 2001.

Peter started his career in the late 1960s and early 1970s at Feltex Ltd. (Durban) and Feltex divisions, as Production Controller, Market Researcher, Marketing Manager and finally Corporate Planning Coordinator handling research projects with BMR and MRA. He then became Development Executive at National Freight Corp for two years, and subsequently moved to Liverpool Daily Post & Echo in the late 1970s where he was first Corporate Planner, then Deputy MD and finally Senior Corporate Planner.

From 1982 to 1987 he was Marketing Development Manager at Initial Industrial Services, and before that Marketing Manager at the Newcastle Chronicle & Journal. In the late 1980s Peter worked as Management Consultant in the United Kingdom after leaving Gaskell Broadloom Plc where he was Marketing Manager.

Peter was with NBS/BoE in the 1990s where he started as Market Research Manager, then Assistant GM Market Research & Special Projects and finally GM Special Projects.

Our thoughts are with Jenny, their furchildren and friends.
