It is time for the annual SAMRA Salary Survey!
The SAMRA Salary Survey 2018 marks the 9th year that SAMRA is running this survey for Southern African data, market research and insights operations. The purpose of the SAMRA Salary Survey is to describe salaries in key roles and to track general salary trends in the insights industry in South Africa, allowing participants to benchmark their remuneration practices. Last year’s survey results about 2017 salaries indicated that remuneration generally remained flat or dropped, year-on-year, except for Account Director, Research/ Account Manager/ Key Account Manager, Junior Research Executive/ Research Assistant/ Research Trainee/ Intern and Specifier/ Programmer/ CATI specialist/ data analyst/ System Developer.
The reporting period for this year’s survey is January 2018 to December 2018. Participation is open to member organisations and non-member organisations, on client- and supplier-side.
- Please let us know by 25 Feb 2019 on firstname.lastname@example.org whether your organisation will be participating, after which you will receive instructions for completing the two questionnaire components (one online and one offline).
- Participants must submit their data by 15 March 2019
- The report will be distributed by 29 March 2019
Price: In the interest of inclusiveness, the price for participation has is the same as last year, at R 3,500 ex. VAT, payable on invoice and before the electronic report is received. For non-participating organisations, the report will only be available from July 2019 and will cost R 14,000 ex. VAT.
Contents of the Report: The report will be similar to the previous reports (see Tables of Contents below). If you would like to motivate for the inclusion of additional job categories (see Job Grading), or suggest changes, you have until 25 February 2019 to do so. Data is submitted and presented in South African Rand, for the period specified (this year will be January 2018 to December 2018).

APPENDIX A: JOB CATEGORIES.
Summary of the Methodology:
- Research Design The research design is primarily quantitative, incorporating primary source data. The strategy followed is descriptive, and a survey method is employed.
- Sampling and Participants Participants are SAMRA Organisation members and non-member organisations (incl. research suppliers and research users) who employ persons in specific job roles/categories and who elect to participate (i.e. convenience sampling).
- Data Collection Instruments A structured research questionnaire is used for the purpose of collecting primary source data, consisting primarily of closed-ended questions. A generic list of job categories for the industry was developed based inter alia on the Organising Framework for Occupations profiles and profiles developed by SAMRA and 21st Century Pay Solutions for previous surveys.
- Data Collection Procedure The SAMRA CEO manages the survey internally. The questionnaire is administered via email and online to all participating SAMRA Organisation members and completed by participants in Microsoft Excel and online. The SAMRA Office Administrator is responsible for phoning all participating organisations as a means of follow-up to get the data in. Participants submit data directly to the SAMRA CEO, who sends the final report to each participating organisations.
- Data Processing and Analysis Primary data is coded and captured in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format, or online, by participating organisations. All data is checked and edited by the SAMRA CEO. Data is analysed by employing univariate descriptive statistics, including mainly cross tabulations, frequencies, frequency distributions, range statistics, medians and some averages.
